Harbour City Football Club Coaching Philosophy
The HCFC coaching philosophy is built around developing the individual as a player, whether that is on or off the pitch. With the aim to create a positive, challenging and enjoyable learning environment that provides the player with the freedom to express and develop their natural ability. We aim to create players who are comfortable on the ball and who are able to make good decisions when in or out of possession. This will encourage the players to think independently, or work alongside others to gain the maximum benefit. I believe that by coaching in this way the player will develop a sense of responsibility for their learning that will stay with them for the rest of their careers.
With this in mind we will base all our coaching sessions on The 4 Corner Model this entails –
Technical/Tactical - “Players that are comfortable on the ball and make the correct decisions when in possession or not in possession of the ball”
Psychological – Give the players the opportunity to make decisions without the fear of criticism & under the 5C’s – Concentration, Confidence, Control, Communication and Commitment.
Physical – Understanding the effects of growth and development on the physical performances and relative trainability of young soccer players.
Social - The Social Corner is all about the human interactions in the game, we need to develop players who: Are well behaved, Are good learners, Recognise the importance of the team, Can manage relationships effectively & Demonstrate independence.
We are going to do this by creating themed training sessions that reflect the relationship between training and match situations. Within each training session each individual player will be challenged at whatever level they are at in their playing ability. The teaching styles of our coaches at the club will be flexible but with a predominant preference of Q&A, 1-1, Trial & Error, Command & Guided Discovery across the age groups. To increase the speed of a player’s decision making we will sometimes make practice areas smaller so the players have more information to process in less time, create an overload or under-load so it challenges the player on their tactical aspect of the game.
As coaches can we inspire, challenge & provide a safe environment for the players to fulfil their potential?
