Name: Daragh Fitzgerald

Daragh, or "Fitz" as many have come to know him, comes to us from Edenderry, Ireland. He has represented his club at all age's up to senior level. He was a striker for an Edenderry Town FC team which competed in the Irish 3rd Division against the top semiprofessional clubs in the country. He also represented Kildare County select team at youth level.


Daragh spent 3 years working as a primary school special needs assistant. He worked with children from the ages of 5-13 who suffered from a range of conditions such autism, asperger’s and other social, physical and academic difficulties. Daragh frequently used sport, in particular soccer, to help develop social and physical skills in the children he was working with.


He moved to Canada in January 2013 and has been a player with Nanaimo United Men's team as well as head coach of Nanaimo United Ladies. He has worked with Campbell River Youth Soccer Academy in their excellent youth development program and was recently a coach of the BC Summer Games Soccer team. Having recently obtained his National B coaching licence "Fitz" is now pursuing his UEFA licencing. 

Name: Geoff Hackett

Roles:  U9-U18 Club Coach & Lead Goalkeeper Coach

Geoff has grown up on Vancouver Island and calls Nanaimo home. His soccer career has seen him play around the Island for over 16 years. From the age of 10, Geoff was drawn to playing goalkeeper. He currently plays for the Nanaimo United mens team. 


Geoff has been lucky to have been mentored by many talented individuals in the soccer community around Vancouver Island. During this time, he has coached young goalkeepers on the many aspects of the position for Island Keeper Clinic, Victoria Highlanders, and the VIPL Riptide. Having completed his community stream of coaching licenses, he has now began to pursue his BC soccer pro licence.  His role with Harbour City FC involves working with young goalkeepers to develop their passion for the game. 

Through coaching, Geoff was drawn to the mental approach to the sport, and pursued a Master’s degree in sport psychology from the University of Windsor. He is continuing his career in athlete development by working with PacificSport to provide a variety of sport initiatives across Vancouver Island. 

Name: Maddy Dawson

Role: U4-U8 Club Coach 

Nationality: Canadian


 Maddy Dawson


Maddy has lived in Nanaimo all her life and is a Harbour City alumni. Having worked her way up through the club since the age of 6 Maddy now plays for Vancouver Island University Womens Team and has competed at provincial and national level on multiple occasions.

Maddy owes her knowledge and passion for soccer to the coaches she has had growing up. She has grown into a skillful player for VIUs team all thanks to the extra development academy sessions she has attended as well as having inspirational coaches that have motivated her over the years.

Now, playing for VIU, Maddy has been awarded the PACWEST Rookie of the Year in her first season and was then top scorer at VIU that led to her being awarded the Golden Boot in her second season. Having spent many hours coaching in community programs such as Just 4 Kicks, Maddy is now looking forward to applying all the information and skills that she has learned over the years to inspire young athletes at HCFC.
